Teamcenter Express V2.0 Special Report

Click Here to download the Fact SheetTeamcenter Express V2.0 is major new release of UGS’ collaborative product data management (cPDM) solution for mid-size manufacturing companies.
In Teamcenter Express V2.0 significant new capabilities have been added to expand its capability for managing both design and manufacturing data and processes.

Key enhancements include new design collaboration capabilities, new modules for managing NX CAM Express data and manufacturing processes, SAP ERP integration and numerous productivity enhancements. With these new capabilities Teamcenter Express significantly extends its delivery of preconfigured industry best-practice processes that originally focused on the design department into new areas such as collaboration with external suppliers and customers and into manufacturing departments. Teamcenter Express Version 2 is a configuration of the Teamcenter 2005 SR1 platform and makes a single, managed source of product and manufacturing data accessible to all departments in a typical mid-size manufacturing organisation.

Highlights include

XpresReview Package Exchange

Teamcenter Express Version 2 introduces a new “XpresReview Package Exchange” capability based on UGS’ existing XpresReview and Packaged Collaboration File (PCF) technologies. New handling routines including import, export, mailing and viewing of PCF packages have been added to Teamcenter Express to facilitate simple but powerful collaboration with cross-department and external users including customers and suppliers. The XpresReview viewer will also be delivered with Teamcenter Express (and can de downloaded free of charge by external users) enabling both internal and external users to review and mark-up the contents of the PCF file.

  • A PCF file is a portable, intelligent container that packages 2D and 3D CAD files and any other document types and is the established design review format for Solid Edge and NX CAD users. .The PCF package can be emailed to external users who do not use Teamcenter Express but who are involved in the review, markup and approval of design data. When creating the PCF file the originator can determine what functions will be enabled in XpresReview, for example only enabling viewing or enabling additional markup and cross-sectioning capabilities.

Teamcenter Express Manufacturing

The new Teamcenter Express Manufacturing capability adds support for the management of NX CAM, NX CAM Express and Solid Edge Manufacturing Solutions data and processes. Key features of this new functionality include:

  • Direct integration between Teamcenter Express and NX CAM and Express enables NC programmers to manage NC programs and post processor files associated with the part design data more efficiently. This functionality is delivered in the Teamcenter Express Manufacturing Author module.

  • Key components of the Teamcenter Manufacturing Part Manufacturing Planner utility enable manufacturing engineers to manage NC machining data including shop documentation and output files, view and report on this data and send data to shop floor machines. This functionality is delivered in the Teamcenter Express Manufacturing Part Planner module.

  • Key components of the Teamcenter Manufacturing Resource Manager utility enable tooling engineers to create and maintain libraries of cutting tools and fixtures. This functionality is delivered in the Teamcenter Express Manufacturing Resource Manager module.

Teamcenter Express SAP option for easily deployed integration with SAP

The new Teamcenter Express SAP option is a preconfigured version of the proven Teamcenter Engineering Gateway for SAP software and enables managed transfer of product data from Teamcenter Express to SAP. This option enables users to transfer accurate part and BOM data from Teamcenter Express to SAP in a managed and consistent way, eliminating the possibility of errors in this critical data transfer. The data transfer is triggered by a preconfigured standard workflow process and feedback is given to the Teamcenter Express user on the success or failure of the transaction in SAP. Functionality includes:

  • Material Master create/change/display

  • Document Info Record create/change/display

  • BOM create/change/display

  • SAP ECN number applied to create/change transactions

  • Mapping capabilities, including back-mapping of attributes from SAP to
Teamcenter. Preconfigured and pre-populated forms to store the data that
    will be transferred

Expanded and updated support for Microsoft Dynamics ERP integrations

Adding to the existing preconfigured integrations to Microsoft Dynamics GP 8.x and 9.x and AX 3.x, Teamcenter Express Version 2 adds a preconfigured integration capability for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 and updates the AX support to include AX 4.0. For these integrations UGS has teamed with QBD Systems who provide the middleware to deliver the Teamcenter Express XML package containing part and BOM information to the Microsoft Dynamics application.

Express Translation Services

Express Translation Services is a preconfigured generic framework for the translation of 2D, 3D and document file types. The translations can be run as on-demand, batch or workflow triggered processes and can be run on a single file or a BOM. Preconfigured translations include.

  • 2D NX Draft files to CGM, HPGL and TIFF

  • 2D Solid Edge Draft files to DXF, PDF and TIFF

  • 3D CAD models from NX, Solid Edge, Ideas NX Series, SolidWorks, CATIA V5, Inventor and Pro/E to .JT

  • Microsoft Office to PDF

Teamcenter 2005 Platform

Many customer requested enhancements are included. Many of these have been addressed by expanding the scope of the preconfigured cPDM environment delivered with Teamcenter Express; others have been addressed with user interface enhancements. A few examples include:

  • Print button added to Product Structure Editor

  • New predefined queries

  • Preconfigured Save As and Deep Copy rules

  • Preconfigured classes added for multi-site export

Takes advantage of the new Teamcenter 2005 SR1 platform with Microsoft .NET standards compliant 4-tier architecture resulting in improved performance over a WAN. With this move to the latest Teamcenter platform Teamcenter Express users can take advantage of over 60 new features and enhancements. A few examples include:

  • Incorporates new Teamcenter Visualization 6.0 version

  • Hierarchical list-of-values capability

  • Improved workflow process assignment interface

  • Auto-assign objects to project

POSCO E&C Selects Velocity Series

Global Engineering and Construction Firm Pairs Teamcenter Express and Solid Edge For Fast and Easy Implementation.

“By pairing Teamcenter Express and Solid Edge, we get a powerful and easy-to-use PLM solution that facilitates our day-to-day engineering tasks and processes,” said MinSoo Kim, deputy general manager, POSCO E&C. “Electing to enter into the PDM world is one of the most important decisions our company has made and it supports our vision of becoming one of the smartest and most innovative companies in our industry.”

POSCO E&C has leveraged Solid Edge for its integrated and managed design capability for five years. One of POSCO E&C’s priorities in their PLM decision was the integration between PDM and CAD. The company found that Teamcenter Express provides the best integration and requires minimum implementation time. With PDM in place, POSCO E&C is expected to maximize product development efficiency.
“As both Teamcenter Express and Solid Edge are part of UGS Velocity Series, the decision was clear and straight-forward,” added Kim. “Teamcenter Express stood out through its seamless integration with Solid Edge and collaborative design management functionality.”
