Transys Projects Limited Choose
Solid Edge for their 3D CAD Solution.

This month Transys Projects Limited, a significant and growing
player in international rail vehicle projects, purchased their first
licenses of Solid Edge after evaluating packages such as Solid Works
and ProEngineer. The decision to purchase Solid Edge was agreed by
the technical team, including Tim Barlow, CAD Manager for Transys
Projects Limited. Tim said, "We decided to go for Solid Edge for
several reasons. Firstly, Siemens PLM Software were offering Solid
Edge 2D as a free incentive and with a high amount of our work still
in 2D, there are key advantages in running both Solid Edge 2D and 3D
together in the same environment. With the interface between the two
packages being ostensibly the same, it allows a natural progression
for our 2D CAD engineers to move to Solid Edge 3D. Solid Edge also
appears to have some dominance in the rail industry, which is
advantageous for us, when sharing and collaborating with clients."
"We believe that Solid Edge gives us an advantage with the ability
to handle CAD data from other platforms such as Microstation. This
was proven to us with a demonstration of Solid Edge V20 by SOLID
Applications Ltd, with excellent results. Finally, the ability to
move from 2D drawings to 3D models using easy to use wizards really
sold it to us. As we have so much Microstation 2D legacy data, the
ability to pick up this data and convert it to 3D Assembly models
was highly important. Solid Edge proved to do this easily and
quickly, which in turn would give us an advantage of automatically
creating BOM lists from the 3D part data". Tim added, "We do have
some 3D CAD systems, such as Microstation and ProEngineer but in my
opinion they are more challenging to use, and with the release of
Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology just around the corner, we
are happy knowing our investment in Solid Edge will deliver proven
results for many years to come".
Tim Barlow picked up on many benefits that Solid Edge can deliver,
and it was great to hear from him how his existing 3D CAD solutions
could not provide what he was looking for, but Solid Edge can.
Transys Projects Limited placed an order last week following a
demonstration on Solid Edge V20 by Michael Clark, Applications
Engineer for SOLID Applications Ltd. Michael's thoughts on Transys
Projects Limited' investment into Solid Edge were "It's a great
result for their business. Now they will be able to design a whole
range of products, allowing Transys to show their clients visual
representations of their end products, not just relying on 2D
drawings which can be harder to read as they require more
interpretation".
Not only did Transys Projects Limited see a demonstration of Solid
Edge V20, they also witnessed Solid Edge with Synchronous
Technology, demonstrated by Craig Checkley, Technical Account
Manager for SOLID Applications Ltd. Tim Barlow said "I was totally
amazed by what I saw, and so was the rest of the group. The ability
to draw sketches and produce all edits in a single 3D environment
was impressive. I liked the fact that any edits are done directly on
the model, and there is no need to go back to profile sketches to
perform basic edits. The introduction of the steering wheel command
into 3D CAD will allow us to design concepts rapidly and easily,
adding driving dimensions after the concept design is complete is
really powerful. Its great that you don't need to think how to model
parts anymore, you just do it, edit it, then constrain it. Its the
way a design engineer should work. More time for creation rather
than planning and being restrained by history-based modelling
methods. This technology will certainly allow us to design
significantly faster than before".

Solid Edge with
Synchronous Technology software is a groundbreaking release –
delivering a new modelling paradigm that combines the speed and
flexibility of explicit modelling with the control and
predictability of parameterized design. Whether you are a casual or
expert user, Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology allows you to
innovate faster than your competition.
To compliment this
release, SOLID Applications Limited, is please to announce the
availability of Update training dates. The Solid Edge with
Synchronous Technology Update Training is priced at £400 per person,
and run over 2 days (the price includes lunch and refreshments).
Highlights of this training course
include:

A new design environment
- Integrated 2D and 3D sketching
- Region-based design
- Face collection features
- Microsoft Office 2007 Style user
interface
Synchronous
Technology tools
Live Rules enable flexible editing by automatically
maintaining relationships such as co-planar, tangent, concentric,
horizontal or vertical within your 3D geometry, by intent or
inference.
Procedural features allow you to change parameters for Hole
patterns, Thinwall and Rounds, thereby maintaining feature-based
design, without feature-to-feature dependencies.
Driving 3D dimensions added directly on your models with
inferred and/or explicit 3D bi-directional dimensions independent
from creation order to give directional edit control with exact
results.
Table- and formula-driven design capabilities maintain highly
automated, parametric design functions of Solid Edge.
Steering wheel and 3D handles that provide ‘grab and go’
editing capabilities.
Update on SOLID Applications Limited
Software Support
SOLID Applications
Limited would like to share with our customers the success of our
helpdesk, by illustrating our response times for customer support
queries.
During June 2008 we
received a total of 135 support calls. We are delighted to report
that 97% of calls were responded to within 15 minutes and a total of
99% were responded to in under 30 minutes. Out of 135 calls, 59% were solved the same day
and 76% solved in less than 2 days.
Over the last 12 months,
we have received a total of 1783 support calls. Of which 96% were
responded to in under 15 minutes, and a total of 99.4% were
responded to in under 30 minutes. Out of 1783 calls, 60% were solved
on the same day and 73% solved in less than 2 days.
Top Tip
from the Helpdesk
Did you know?
...that you can select a part already in the assembly from the
assembly pathfinder and drag it into the graphics window for
fast replication?
…that
by holding down CTRL and dragging a component into an assembly, SE
will place it grounded and aligned to the assembly origin. Great for
rebuilding divided parts when you know the origin for both parts is
coincident.
...that by holding down SHIFT and dragging a component into an
assembly, SE will place it in the assembly with no constraints at
the cursor location
